Maisonkoti was founded by Mirja Kärkkäinen in 1996. While working as a mental health nurse, she realised there was a distinct need for non-institutional care services for people recovering and living with mental illness.

With passion and purpose, Mirja developed innovative methods of support and motivation techniques, guiding clients through active participation, towards autonomy, independent living and a better quality of life.

After retiring in 2015 the company has been led and further developed by Mirja’s daughter and her husband, Maria and Mika Berlin.

Supported by around 30 social and healthcare professionals, the Maisonkoti team now continues its mission to provide specialist care for their clients living in neighbourhoods in and around Helsinki and Vantaa. Innovation still remains one of Maisonkoti’s core values and this drives the team to continually evolve, adapt and improve the effectiveness of their services.
